Each game has been decompressed into its own subdirectory, so that everyone can grab it easily, without worrying about decompression tools. Be sure to be in binary mode when getting the games. Enter it by typing 'bi'. If a game has special requirements to run, they are listed in a file called 1REQ.TXT in the appropriate subdirectory. Any game ending in .GAM will need a TADS interpreter, available in: /if-archive/programming/tads/. Any game ending in .Z5 or .Z3 will require a zmachine interpreter, available in: /if-archive/infocom/interpreters/. Votes should be sent to: ct@ecs.ox.ac.uk Questions on the competition and such should be sent to: whizzard@uclink.berkeley.edu. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note from the archive maintainers: If you want to download everything in one gulp. type 'get competition96.zip' or 'get competition96.tgz' from the games directory (after switching to binary mode); this will compress the whole directory tree into one file in your favorite format and then send this file to you. Caution: This procedure will leave text files in the format in which they are stored here, i.e. Unix format with LFs only. Volker Blasius, 21oct96
