======================================== ESCAPE FROM SANTALAND: WALKTHROUGH (Release 2 / Serial number 110913) ======================================== The catalyst in the game occurs when the elf steals your coat (and, unfortunately, your car keys). After this point, your goal is to unlock Santa's chair. To unlock the chair, you must figure out the correct setting on the combination lock represented by the copper, silver, and gold panels. The panels can be tackled in any order*. After setting the panels correctly, you can open Santa's chair, get your coat, and exit the mall. * Actually, you can solve any two of the panels, and then just guess on the third without actually knowing the correct setting in advance. (Yes, I am aware of this and, in fact, I intentionally kept this in as an option.) WALKTHROUGH ----------- Note that this version of the walkthrough includes a few more commands than just those needed to win the game, but not so many that you'll get a full experience. X ME INVENTORY E N N The solution to the combination lock is randomized at the start of the game, so it will take some figuring to determine the correct configuration. More on that below. X PANEL TURN DIAL TURN DIAL As you make your way to the parking lot, you will meet the elf who, having been recently laid off, isn't particularly friendly or cooperative. Just about any action will cause him eventually to steal your coat and run off into Santaland. E E X MAN TALK TO MAN W E There are three reindeer statues in the game: the clues to the combination lock. The gold statue is clearly of Rudolph, but the other two statues will not be identified by name. The tree skirt contains the hints to the identities of the other reindeer statues. TAKE STATUE X STATUE X CHAIR OPEN CHAIR X TREE X SKIRT TAKE SKIRT The panels can be tackled in any order. This walkthrough solves the copper panel first, then the silver panel, then gold. (A) The Copper Panel -------------------- The copper reindeer statue can be found by solving the puzzle in the train depot. To solve this puzzle, you need to free the flashlight from the super-plastic package (using the Hickory Farms cheese knife) and power it up (using the batteries from the TV remote in the Elves' break room). Using the flashlight, you can illuminate the train tunnel, ride the magic locomotive to the North Pole, and peer in the window of Santa's workshop. When you examine the copper reindeer statue, make note of the following features: (a) Does it have its front legs up or down? (b) Is it wearing a holly wreath or a jingle bell collar? (c) Does it have large antlers or small antlers? The reindeer on the tree skirt are in the "standard order": Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen. Each of the eight reindeer (after Rudolph) has a unique description that is some combination of the three features above. Compare the description of the statue to the images on the tree skirt (or use the Summary of Reindeer Descriptions given at the end of this document). To solve this puzzle, you need to get the string of Christmas lights working (testing the individual light bulbs in the electric candle on the bookkeeper's desk, if you wish). Lighting the Christmas lights will start up the robotic elves, who will then produce the silver statue. The string of Christmas lights is randomized at the start of every new game, so you'll have to hunt a bit to determine which light bulbs to use. There are seven bulbs in all. One of the bulbs in the string of lights is burnt out, as is one of the extra ones in the basket. W W S X LONE ELF X STRING OF LIGHTS X MACHINES X BASKET TAKE ALL FROM BASKET X CANDLE This is the randomized part. Test individual bulbs as necessary to find the five that work and then plug those five into the string of Christmas lights. TAKE PUT INTO CANDLE TAKE PUT INTO STRING After powering up the workshop, the machines will spit out the silver statue. Compare its description to the reindeer pictured on the tree skirt as you did for the copper statue. X ELVES X BASKET TAKE SILVER STATUE X IT (C) The Gold Panel ------------------ The gold reindeer statue is dropped by the elf as he slips into the secret passage, but the gold panel is blocked by the live reindeer in the reindeer pen. To solve this puzzle, you need to lure the reindeer away using the open scented candle. Dropping the candle in another room will keep the reindeer out of the pen so that players can access the gold panel.
